This is one of a favourite trails in the winter time as the river usually has plenty of water and the fields are green and lush — a perfect setting for a leisurely run to end what has been a very exciting trail running year.
This is a group run where faster runners are welcome to charge ahead but are expected to either loop or loiter.
We start and finish in the picturesque village of Lazanias, following the E4 from there down through the valley, across the river and then up to Macheras monastery. From there we head down the valley again and join the river trail. At the wooden bridge we cross over the river and make our way along goat tracks and jeep tracks back to Lazanias.
Meet at the Μαγεία Λαζανιά restaurant, where after the run we will enjoy a hearty lunch, for those who can stay.
Note that a 4km fun family run/walk from the village along the trails to the monastery and back is also possible. Those wishing to do less than 12-15k can turn back and follow the trail back to Lazanias at any time.
Also note that we don’t have a GPX track of the route nor any idea of the elevation change. This is an event aimed at highlighting the enjoyment of running on trails and discovering the beauty and magic of the natural environment.
We are holding the event on a Saturday as there are too many hunters out on these trails on a Sunday.
The event is free of charge and all runners are welcome.
