One of the latest additions to the XTERRA family is finally here! Mediterranean blue waters, volcanic like trails and vistas of exceptional beauty make XTERRA Cyprus one of the most iconic locations in the series. Sunday April 23rd 2017. Will comprise a 1.5K sea swim, followed by a 32K mountain bike ride and a 10K run with elevations climbs of approx. 800 meters.
The course starts in the crisp turquoise bay of Lara Beach, one of the Worlds breeding areas for the “loggerhead” and “Green” turtles. The 1.5km triangular swim on a 750m anti-clockwise course. The sea temperature is around 16 degrees Celsius and requires a wetsuit. Transition s up the beach and a ramp to the bike rack area.
The mountain bike is a two-loop route that passes through the national park of Akamas. The course is a mix of sandy and rocky tracks, at times alongside the coast before turning into the start of the Avakas Gorge, then climbing on rocky tracks passing ancient olive trees, through groves of carob trees as well as juniper and pine woodland areas.
The run is one loop for Sprint and a two-loop route for Full distance. Initially it heads out across the beach, then follows the coast across exposed limestone heading towards the nature reserve of Lara Bay famous for the Loggerhead & Green turtles that come ashore to lay their eggs. The route then turns inland along sandy tracks and trails before returning to the beach.
